About the Author
Carolyn L. Mein, D.C., is a nationally recognized author, speaker, and expert on health and nutrition. She is a fellow of the American Council of Applied Clinical Nutrition (F.A.C.A.C.N.) and a charter member of the International College of Applied Kinesiology. Dr. Mein holds degrees in Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Applied Nutrition, and Bio-Nutrition. She has maintained a private practice in Rancho Sante Fe, California (near San Diego) for over 25 years. Dr. Mein's interests in health, wellness and nutrition began with personal experimentation and observation. In an effort to sort through and make sense of the jungle of popular diets, she turned to the body itself. Through applied kinesiology, Dr. Mein listens to the body for direct answers to health and nutrition. With the goal of maximizing health and vitality through practical means without radical diets or lifestyles, she determined how to incorporate balance in today's busy world without compromising the variety that keeps life interesting. Learn about emotions, physical health, and essential oil use.

Great for learning how to release emotions that can trigger or aggravate physical health conditions, using essential oils. I look through this book almost every day, learning which oils to use for specific emotional issues, where to apply the oils, and to understand the positive side of perceived negative experiences. I am trying to support brain health and detoxing from exposure to food toxins, antibiotic side effects, and emotional trauma. There are clear, precise charts that show alarm points, tables that list emotions, the positive emotion, and affirmations that can be used; muscle testing is described; determining body/emotion type. This book has taught me how to do all of this. I have the May, 2012, edition but I'm sure the 2014 is even better with an updated, longer list of oils to use.

Hilarious motorcycle gang rom com!

When I read this story was about outlaw biker gangs I never thought it would prove to be such a fun read - it is, quite simply, hilarious! Ok, so some parts are sort of scary, but the reactions of the heroine, Minerva Coolidge (aka Minnie), are brilliant and had me laughing out loud for much of the story. Minnie’s family head a Californian biker gang but she wants to leave all that behind and become a super model and she’s doing the best to ensure she gets there, even if that means running away from home. Unfortunately she was unaware that a rival biker gang are out to get her. When they try to kidnap her from the airport she proves she’s a feisty lady and no pushover. Helped by Big Mike, she manages to escape but then discovers that he’s been sent by her brother with instructions to put her on the next available flight back home but they hadn’t bargained for her stubborn determination to make her dreams come true. She isn’t just good looking, she’s resilient, independent and a force to be reckoned with - as all the men involved are about to find out!

Minnie is a brilliant character, so funny and smart that she easily outwits the men around her in the most hilarious ways, even though she may be scared. Big Mike initially totally underestimates Minnie but his attitude changes as he endeavours to cope with her resourcefulness and inventiveness. The couple face trouble every way they turn, some self imposed, more from rival gangs, more kidnapping attempts, danger and death but her crazy innovations and, of course, the romance, make this an easy, fun read that I’ll be laughing about for some time to come - and I can't wait to read any sequels! No hesitation - my recommendation is go get yourself a copy of this delightful book to immerse yourself in.

Fun, original and quirky

This is the second adventure in the Big Mike and Minnie series, although this is the intro to our strange and lovable pair of main characters. Just like the first, it's a fun, quirky, story told with wit and skill. Kelly's imagination shines throughout, as does her writing skill. Minnie is a model determined to make it in New York, her outlaw biker family want her back home. She's tough, resourceful, smart, and a helluva risk-taker, thanks to her very unconventional background. Big Mike is... big. He's tough. Black ops tough. How they end up in a relationship is a romp, in the truest sense of the word. If you want a well-written romance with lots of action, wit, humor and originality, you owe it to yourself to meet Big Mike and Minnie.

Witty and charming; an excellent read.

Initially, this novel peaked my interest because the plot seemed witty, and I just happened to be in the mood for a romance. I must say this book did not disappoint. On the Run is exactly what I expected it to be: humorous and adorable.

Big Mike is a tough guy who has had his fair share of fights, and Minnie is an ambitious model who is trying to avoid her biker family upbringing being revealed to the fashion community. When Minnie’s brother, Crash, asks Big Mike to look after Minnie in the midst of a turf war between Minnie’s family’s biker gang and another rival gang, things start to get interesting. I was slightly skeptical in the first few chapters whether these two were going to mesh together well—which is part of what makes this novel so charming. These clashing characters butt heads and drive each other crazy, but they grow on the reader as well as on each other. I would call it an interesting twist on the classic Romeo and Juliet storyline.

Personally, I felt a little at odds with how the book’s perspective changes from chapter to chapter. I appreciated being able to see how Big Mike’s opinion of Minnie morphed as the story progressed (and vice versa), but at the same time it was difficult to tell at the beginning of some chapters who’s view I was seeing the world from.

Francis Buttle, PhD, is founder and principal consultant of Francis Buttle & Associates,a Sydney, Australia-based business that helps organizations become more skilled and successful at customer acquisition, retention and development. Francis has spent most of the last 30 years in various academic roles around the world. He has been a Professor of Customer Relationship Management, Professor of Marketing,Professor of Relationship Marketing, and Professor of Management at a number of leading graduate schools of management, including Manchester Business School (UK), Cranfield School of Management (UK) and Macquarie Graduate School of Management (Australia). He was appointed as the world's first Professor of CRM in 1995, and remains an Adjunct Professor at MGSM. Francis has authored, co-authored or edited 7 books, and over 100 peer-reviewed academic journal articles or conference papers. In addition, he is a frequent contributor to practitioner magazines, presenter at business conferences, and a serial blogger. Great text and guidebook

This should be considered for any curriculum through the master's level as an overview of CRM. I've been steeped in marketing and management texts for months and most of them miss the mark entirely on CRM.

Buttle's writing is clear and his organization of the material is even better. I especially appreciated his discussion about quality and the importance of understand that the market's perception of quality drives satisfaction and competitiveness. This helps fill in what is a chronic gap in CRM: Most companies look for ways to find the right customers and fire the bad ones using data analytics that they call CRM, based on some of the most insidious principles of customer value management (CVM), viz., that it's the value the customer has to YOU that matters most. That's not the full picture. It's the value YOU have to the customer and prospect that makes sure you're going to be around for any length of time.

This is but one example of how Buttle has laid out CRM as a complete view of the organization, inside and out.

My only "ding" is that it needs to be updated a bit: The next part of CRM will be customer experience management (CEM), which starts with a business rules layer driven precisely by perceived value metrics, so that the right value components of your value proposition are expressed in the right channels in the right way. Another trend that should be emphasized more is the value of using a multi-channel approach for gathering the voice and behavior of the customer to drive innovation, operations and marketing.

So, if you're interested in a well-written, documented, rich and yet broad view of CRM and its implications for your organization, Buttle is a great buy. But also pick up something on customer experience management.

The best CRM text I have read

I have read a number of CRM texts, however, this is a mile ahead and I would have to say it is the best CRM text that I have read.
It offers an excellent introduction to the principals of CRM and each chapter builds on the last, presenting a logical view of CRM from a marketers perspective, not from a that of a software engineer, a welcome change.
A must read for marketing profesionals and academic marketing courses.

Starred Review. Yang, cofounder of the immigrant-services company Words Wanted, was born in a Hmong refugee camp in Thailand in 1980. Her grandmother had wanted to stay in the camp, to make it easier for her spirit to find its way back to her birthplace when she died, but people knew it would soon be liquidated. America looked promising, so Yang and her family, along with scores of other Hmong, left the jungles of Thailand to fly to California, then settle in St. Paul, Minn. In many ways, these hardworking refugees followed the classic immigrant arc, with the adults working double jobs so the children could get an education and be a credit to the community. But the Hmong immigrants were also unique—coming from a non-Christian, rain forest culture, with no homeland to imagine returning to, with hardly anyone in America knowing anything about them. As Yang wryly notes, they studied the Vietnam War at school, without their lessons ever mentioning that the Hmong had been fighting for the Americans. Yang tells her family's story with grace; she narrates their struggles, beautifully weaving in Hmong folklore and culture. By the end of this moving, unforgettable book, when Yang describes the death of her beloved grandmother, readers will delight at how intimately they have become part of this formerly strange culture. A very compelling memoir

A very good, very different book for me. The memoir is about her parents and grandmother's journey from their home in Laos to the refugee camps in Thailand, where Yang was born, and finally to Minnesota, where the majority of the Hmong were resettled. And of course it's about her journey as well. The Hmong made the mistake of siding with the US during the Secret and Vietnam wars, which led to a concerted effort by the Pathet Lao and the Vietcong to eradicate the Hmong, once the US left.

The memoir is very well written - very compelling, with very vivid descriptions - much from the view of young child, but blending in the memories of her grandmother and parents. You will get a real appreciation for what it means to be a refugee, and the challenges they face in a new country and culture.

A Stirring, Poignant, Evocative Masterpiece

I had the privilege of reading a pre-publication manuscript of this book. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Kao Kalia Yang tells the story of her family--which in Hmong culture extends far beyond one's parents and siblings. From the jungles of Laos, where her family lived before she was born, across the treacherous Mekong River, into Thailand's Ban Vinai refugee camp, and ultimately here to the United States, Yang tells us of the alliance her Hmong people made with the US, the dangers they experienced as a result of America's withdrawal from Southeast Asia, their harrowing flight from the only country they had ever known, and the indignities suffered and hopes and dreams shared while living an uncertain life in a refugee camp. At the center of this unforgettable tale is Yang's grandmother, who struggles to keep her family together in the camp, but must ultimately surrender to the inevitability of their parting. Through Yang and her family we are connected to the challenges, pains, joys, and triumphs of the refugee/immigrant experience and the love and dedication of a family unlike any we have met before, yet as familiar and comfortable as any we are likely to know. We are drawn into Yang's seductive prose, the poignancy of her family's and her own circumstances, and the hope that their suffering, including that of her grandmother, who ultimately comes to America, will somehow be redeemed in this new country that in many ways necessitated their flight from Laos. This irresistable and moving debut--and its author--deserve a wide and appreciative audience.

Better Late Home than never ...

I read between 30 and 40 books a year and seldom is there one that I do not 'enjoy' but there are times when I 'find' a book which I never want to reach the last page/end. Although originally published in 1998 - I finally came across in April of this year what IS (for me) the most beautiful, eloquentlly written book I've read so far this year: A 'tale' about the precious gift of life and the unforgettable memories it affords. Constantly tears watered my eyes and my heart ached as turned the pages my 15th book this year. A memoir which I never wanted to end ... but which like' life' finally does. All I can say is IF YOU have not read The Latehomecomer by Kao Kalia Yang - I urge you to do so ... as this IS a book that 'deserves' more than 5 *****.
