A very good book with a few flaws - but, still worth it!

I would have given this 5 stars but Doris Kearns Goodwin just gets into too much analysis from a psychological perspective. Keep in mind, however, that she was probably right about theories on LBJ. Her political views also come into play just a little too much.

On the positive side, this was definitely worth reading. While she may have been biased with her political views, she is very quick to offer alternative points of view. Most importantly, her access to LBJ seems unprecedented. This book was definitely worth the time and money - I enjoyed it and look forward to doing more research on the President and his era.

I appreciated Goodwin's organization of Jonson's political life, and the insights she reflected in her narrative. I wonder what a similar narrative would be like with regard to President Obama.

Poorly written and poorly edited.

I bought this book as a required textbook for the advanced pathophysiology class I am in. I am not happy with the book. Throughout the text (I have both the hardcover, that I bought from Amazon and the electronic version I bought from Google Play Books) there are numerous typographic errors. The book uses very stilted and dated language. There are many sections where the authors will begin discussing a topic, move on to another topic or aspect of the topic, and then never finish the original thought. The authors will list three or four things that are pertinent to understanding a topic and then discuss them in a different order than originally presented. They will talk about one thing being most important and talk about that thing last. I have never been so frustrated by reading a textbook as I was with this one. Before you apply to a nurse practitioner program, I would inquire about what text they use for patho. If it is this one, I would look for another program. It is that bad.

Good text, not fantastic, but GOOD...

Required text for class, so I don't know if I would purchase this if I were simply shopping for a text to update my library. Things I liked: color coded by systems; text broken down with the first system chapters focused on the physiology of a healthy system; subsequent chapters focused on pathophysiology according to gender (if warranted) and pediatrics; geriatric patients are singled out and covered in the system and adult chapters with normal age related changes or abnormal age related changes noted and discussed; pathological conditions are presented by introduction (description & incidence), pathophysiology, patient presentation and mention of therapy options; and finally, there are lots of fantastic illustrations and tables (I'm a visual learner).

What I didn't like so much: with a publication date of 2014, I would have expected it to be more up to date on hotly researched areas of study than it was (a very few topics were woefully outdated by many years, not months). While I recognize our understanding of disease processes are changing daily, mearly mentioning that a topic is evolving rapidly (epigenetics, for instance) would have gone far in making this text better able to stand up to time, almost helping to excuse any outdated material, if that makes sense. At the very least, it would have served well to provide cues that a current literature search may be warranted. Elsevier's Evolve was a little disappointing, too... Chapter reviews were exactly those found at the end of the chapters in the book, no more, no less and often lacked pertinent material needed for study; only the chapter "high points", I guess you could say. These reviews were downloadable in a Word document, though, so personal alterations to add content as needed for study was a simple enough matter. That's a plus. Occasionally, there were some good graphics to aid in understanding, but not every Evolve chapter offered them. Honestly, I got more from watching YouTube for clarification on some topics (reputable sources, such as universities and disease foundations, of course). Evolve, does offer practice quizzes, but they were painfully short and didn't cover all the material one should expect from an instructor's quizzes or tests (again, only the high points). All in all, though, it's a decent text given the content; and the layout was perfect for my style of learning and study habits. I'll be hanging on to this one for future reference.

Not a "straight to the point" kind of textbook...

I absolutely agree with most of the other "hate it/don't like it" reviews. I am a Denver university student and this textbook was, of course, utilized for our Pathophysiology class. It was awful. It poorly explained each topic. It bounced around in each section as opposed to sticking with what it was talking about and then flowing into its next topic. I do not know if it is because I am a "straight to the point" kind of person, but this textbook did not do that. I would HIGHLY suggest the study guide and reviewing the summaries at the end of each chapter if this pertains to any Colorado college students as of 2016. It really helped me acheive an "A" in the class in addition to other internet resources. The textbook just really sucked (at least for me).

Fun read for any Broadway fan

This is such a fun book! Not only is Seth a true Broadway aficionado, he has a really good sense of humor when writing about it. The book is written with the same "voice" he uses on his Sirius XM radio shows, and while reading the book I felt he was personally telling me the inside scoop about backstage Broadway. I couldn't put the book down and can't wait for Volume 2.

This is the kind of fun, backstage, fascinating story that I love to read, especially knowing it's true. Great Little Guide Book

Having moved to Seoul a few months ago I purchased 2 guide books; this one for the city of Seoul and Frommer's South Korea for everything else in the country. I love this guide book. It identifies the essential highlights of the city so you can avoid spending time on less significant city features. The pictures and the parsimonious text are very beneficial and are spot-on in my opinion for their clarity and their accuracy. Furthermore, the suggested itineraries for all kinds of travelers helps you optimize your time in the city. In addition, the maps of the public transit system and the city streets are handy to use, plastic laminated, and quite durable. And the guide is compact, too making it ideal to slip in your pocket to take with you. Very well laid out in neighborhoods and sectors so you can learn of the best features of the city anywhere you go. Definitely a valuable resource and I highly recommend it. I take it with me every time I go exploring.

A good guide to maximize your time in Seoul

Seoul is a huge city, so you need something to help keep you focused during the limited time you're there. I used the Top 10 Seoul there a few weeks ago when I was in Seoul (during my second time there) so I had a bit of an understanding of what was there, but was amazed at how much there is to do.

The book's primary strengths are to give you a book that fits neatly in your pocket with halfway decent maps. The book lacks depth, which is fine considering the size.

So the book gets 4 stars - if you're going to be there for a week or more, then you'd be better off getting a Frommers/Lonely Planet/etc. Also, the Seoul Tourism board has an iPhone app that helps expand upon this book and gives you more information about sites in the book. And it's free too.

With high-hopes, I went through quite a lot to download the Kindle App, purchase this edition, sync and... Oh my... I swear, I thought I did something terribly wrong. No eBook could possibly be this ugly. Especially not one from my very favorite travel publisher. It is, quit simply, a disaster. Virtually no images, maps (horrible resolution those few that are included). I have to ask... "What happened?" This book is like reading raw computer code.

I want my money back. Don't waste yours.

I'm sure the paperback is fabulous, as they always are.
